Saturday morning during Missions Conference means a great breakfast awaits at the Fellowship Hall. One of the goals of the missions committee in planning the conference is to have many oppportunities for those interested in missions to be able to talk to missionaries face-to-face, like on Saturday morning during breakfast.
Another tradition for Saturdays during Missions Conference is the ethnic meal that evening. The missionaries volunteered recipes from the countries where they serve. Larry and the crew prepared the different dishes to give us another way to learn about the missionaries' lives.
At the Children's Conference Tad and Jane Hampton shared with the kids about Senegal, Africa. A unique experience was Jane showing on young Ella the way African women take a length of cloth and make it into a dress by how they wrap it around their bodies.
At the Missions Conference John Evans gave the congregation an update on his and Elizabeth's upcoming move to Kenya. John is going to serve the Lord as a professor at Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology. There is a great need for Biblical education for the African pastors and church leaders.
The keynote address was a powerful one by Bill Carr taken from John 21:1-17. From this passage of Scripture Bill gave four keys to our individual roles in obeying The Great Commission. We cannot depend on our own power to obey. Obedience is not determined by our past failures. Obedience often means waiting; that patience is needed when seeking God's purposes in our lives. Obedience to The Great Commission requires a special love, agape love, that only the Holy Spirit can give. Powerful and important truths that those of us involved in mission work need to think about and put into our hearts!
